Twitter Isn’t Tinder – But Does It Matter?

Twitter isn’t Tinder. It never has been and it doesn’t try to be. Yet since I’ve set up the @itsmymatepaddy Twitter page I’ve been surprised. Pleasantly that is. We all know how Tinder works, go on and swipe away. We all know thats not how Twitter works. But since the page started I’ve come across “Twitter Shaggers” and Twitter romances. I’m an old romantic when I want to be. So romance anywhere is great to see. I’ve loved seeing some relationships flourish on Twitter for some of my favourite people on there. It’s been a delight in this shit storm of a year. But it wasn’t what I expected to…

Lockdown Swiping – My Dating App Time In Lockdown

Lockdown swiping was one way for me to get through the early stages of lockdown. Over on Twitter I made no secret that I’d done relatively well in terms of matches. These matches led to good chats. I think the count when I discussed it was 90. From the end of March to the middle of April I got 90 decent chats with people. I’d never known such a thing. I was buzzing with it, I was hoping lockdown would soon be over so I could get out on some dates. I spoke in detail to a good number of them. In terms of meeting up, potential relationships and other…

    The Dating Apps 3some

The dating apps, a nightmare of a place to be. Don’t get me wrong I enjoy them, most of the time. Right now though I’m really not enjoying them. They seem like hard work, tedious and boring. So i’ve stopped going on them. So just to give a bit of context to this blog, I decided to have a week dedicated to one of the dating apps a week, swiping on profiles each day. Using Tinder, Bumble & Hinge I decided to swipe every single day. 80 swipes a day. In a similar time scale at the start of lockdown I had around 90 conversations on the go. Some moved…

    Agnes Slides Into The DM’s

Firstly, apologises for the delay in the podcast. Agnes was always someone I’d write about once the pod came out but I figured I’d do it beforehand. The Beginning So here we are, Agnes. I’d taken myself off the dating apps. I wasn’t looking. Never had intentions to look. I got the call to say that my grandma had passed away. I’d never felt pain like it. Still, as I write this and when I spoke about it, it’s hard to accept that shes gone. So that was it, I needed to sort my head out. I’d messaged the people I’d been talking to at the time, explained a situation…

    Social Distance Date Night

If you follow me on Twitter (@itsmymatepaddy) you will have seen I recently went on a social distance date. The date came around after matching with the woman on Hinge. We chatted for a bit on there, seemed to have a fair bit in common so decided to swap numbers. The chat then turned to Whats App. We would speak for the best part of a week, back and forward day and night. The more we talked the more we found we had in common with each other. It seemed to go great. Although there wasn’t really any flirting going on in the texts, it was more like a normal…

    Please Set Your Preferences…

You sign up to your online dating site of choice. You’ve upload that selfie you took months ago, when we were allowed out and you were living your best life. The bio has been filled in with something witty and eye catching, then the fun starts. But, before you can start the fun of getting matches and writing that amazing bio that Buzzfeed or some other wacky website told you that you totally should write, you have to select your preferences. I’m a man/woman — looking for a man/woman between the ages of…..I’m straight/bi/gay, you get the gist. Now no one sees what you pick, no one knows what ages…

    Ghosted…..The Ghoster & The Ghostee

Firstly let me say thanks to @single20somthin on Twitter for giving me the idea to write about this topic. I’m sure as well, this will be something we discuss on the podcast at some point, I mean how can we not. Ghosting, it must have happened to us all in the online dating world right? You think it’s all going great, you’ve spoke to that woman/man for days, if not weeks, hours on the phone and hundreds of texts. Then, nothing, worse than nothing silence. Total silence. Left on read or not even read at all. Shit! The first time it happens the thought turns to “is it me? is…

    The Cost Of Online Dating

One afternoon my curiosity got the better of me, what would the actual cost be to sign up and become a premium member on the apps I have downloaded? So I started to browse the apps and work it out. I currently have Tinder, Bumble, Plenty Of Fish and Hinge. I started by looking at Tinder, I’m already paying £7.99 a month for this to have unlimited swipes. These are the plans you can have with Tinder Tinder Plus – £7.99 a month Tinder Gold – £27.99 a month – like the £7.99 package you get unlimited swipes but you also get to view who liked you and the passport…

Travelling The World In Lockdown…On Tinder

Lockdown, the night Boris Johnson told us “Stay Home, Save Lives, Protect The NHS” and the night that dating in 2020 changed in the UK for at least 3 weeks. We’ve now hit week 7. Things haven’t changed, dating in 2020 has been, if you’re following the rules, a virtual world. With no chance of being able to meet to date, let alone travel, Tinder gave everyone a virtual plane ticket to fly around the world for a month. I’ll be honest over on @itsmymatepaddy I wasn’t overly happy with this. I didn’t see the point and thought free unlimited swipes would be better. However since I was paying £7.99…
